Arafat Day 2013 ~ One of the Holy Days in Islam falls on the 9th day of Dhul Hijja and is called the Day of Arafat or the Day of Arafa. This day is based on the Islamic calendar and is also known as the second day of the Hajj pilgrimage, which occurs one day before the major Islamic festival of Eid Al-Adha.
Arafat Day is celebrated every year as a national holiday in the UAE or the United Arab Emirates. Because the date of Arafat Day is based on the Islamic lunar calendar and moon sightings, the dates for this day keeps changing according to the year to year, Gregorian calendar. In addition, Islamic festivals are also based on monthly moon sightings so the exact dates of these festivals are sometimes only announced a few day in advance.

Arafat Day 2013 Celebration
The Day of Arafa for the Hajj pilgrims is the second day of their pilgrimage and the day the go to the Plain of Arafa in Mina. Once the get to the Mount of Mercy, they will stand or sit and ask forgiveness from Allah while making supplication. After sunset, the pilgrims go to Muzdalifah to pray during the night and collect pebbles for another Hajj ritual the following day. If not performing Hajj, Muslims will observe the Day of Arafa by fasting from sunrise till sunset. The Muslims who do not perform Hajj believe that if they fast on the Day of Arafa, all their sins from the past year as well as the coming year will be forgiven however this act is not obligatory as it is during Ramadan.
In the United Arab Emirates, the Day of Arafa is a national holiday and as such, most schools, businesses and government offices are closed during that day. Both Dubai and the UAE, Eid-al Adha and the Day of Arafa will be a 4-day holiday and most people will take vacations either within their countries or outside their countries. However, there are some people who had rather stay home to strengthen their faith in Islam and increase their worship.
